Barkway’s Got Talent – Barkway Village Market

Barkway’s Got Talent

Barkway, on the old trading route from London to Cambridge, celebrates its market history and its significance as a place of social gathering each year in May with a market. Organised and run because of a strong community spirit, what better place then to welcome in local celebrity from neighbouring Buntingford, police dog Finn and his handler Dave Wardell, fresh from their appearance on Saturday night’s Britain’s Got Talent.

PD Finn who was almost stabbed to death whilst on duty and in doing so saved Dave from being seriously injured or worse, demonstrated the inseparable bond between them and moved the judges to tears on Saturday whilst performing a mind reading trick, getting them through to the next round of the talent show. Since the fateful night in October 2016, PC Dave Wardell has campaigned tirelessly for a law to give greater protection to service animals which will come into force this summer.

The pair will be visiting the market between 12pm & 2pm, so that the community may get a chance to meet Finn. It’s great that they can find time to appear at Barkway Market ahead of their appearance at the charity gala Police Symphony Orchestra concert at the Royal Albert Hall the same evening.

Joining PD Finn at the market, they’ll be an eclectic mix of music from the local Royston Brass Band, an organ recital in the Church and the schoolchildren of Barkway and Barley Schools Federation will perform Maypole Dancing to modern musicals, the Greatest Showman amongst others. Talented talons will be on display courtesy of Fens Falconry with talks during the day. You may marvel at the strength of a model train as it provides rides to young and old alike and witness a magical transformation in a paint up-cycling demonstration in the church, which this year will also be hosting craft from local artisans. Rummage in the meadow for the weird and wonderful bric-a-brac or indulge in delicious food freshly conjured up. Join in on 11th May for a quintessential English May day-out.
