Barley Flower Tower Update

Since the Barley Flower Tower was hoisted into position with the expert help of the Royston Fire service and a band of helpful villagers, its renown has spread far and wide.
On 27th June, the rector Ruth Pyke and Flower Tower designer Alison White were interviewed live on BBC Look East and on the 30th June a film crew from ITV Anglia news arrived for our second live interview! These generated a lot of interest in the Flower Tower and we have had visitors from all over Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire, all of whom left with a smile on their faces.

The local pubs have noticed an increase in visitors too!
Over ten different Churches from around the country have been asking advice about how to create their own flower towers, so we could see more like ours popping up all over the place!!
Latterly the flower tower has been features in the local and national press, Diocesan publications and on BBC Three Counties Radio. Links to all of these are on our Facebook page.

We are also going to be featured in Knit Now and Simply Knitting Magazines.
The local Beavers have visited the church to see their handiwork and to take part in a special outdoor Sunday church service to bless the Flower Tower, which was well attended by the village despite a rather drizzly morning, but by the end of the service the sun was shining.
A Pop up Pimms and Cocktail Party was enjoyed by a number of local people next to the Flower Tower one evening in late June, an event which boosted our fundraising.
We have launched a ‘Barley Flower Tower Photographer of the Year’ on our Facebook page where the winner is the photo with the most LIKES received by the 1st September.
There will be an Art exhibition in the church during September to choose the ‘Barley Flower Tower Artist of the Year’, which is open to all, adults and children.
Our next big event under the Flower tower will be an afternoon tea with an opportunity for local clubs and groups and charities to have a stall to boost their own fundraising efforts.
