Helen Betley dreamed of making a difference, and of setting up an independent ‘zero waste’ shop. A corporate accountant, Helen was concerned about the amount of plastic we use and the rate of climate change. After starting a family in 2017, this concern became much more significant because she wanted to make a difference to her daughter’s future.
She launched Replenish & Reuse in 2020. The store sells a wide variety of foods, cleaning products, toiletries and household items, with the primary aim of reducing waste, especially plastic. The shop also stocks many speciality foods that are not readily available in local supermarkets, including a wide range of gluten-free, vegan and organic goods.
Replenish & Reuse is one of many independent zero waste shops opening up all around the country, with this style of shopping rapidly gaining popularity. Customers bring along containers that they already have, then fill them with as much or as little as they require of their chosen product. This not only reduces packaging waste, but also helps reduce food waste.
Visit Helen in the High Street of the pretty Hertfordshire market town of Buntingford, which boasts a great selection of independent shops, including an award-winning cheese shop.
