Royston Ladies XV, has been a development side since November 2015. It began as a group of Mums bored of standing at the side-lines watching the husbands and children play rugby so they got together to create Royston RUFC’s first ever women’s side.
We now have 20 regular players at mid point in our second season and a fantastic coach in Lee Fleming who bravely took on the role of leading a group of rugby women but also has a passion for making rugby available to all. He is ably assisted by Godfrey Everett.
Within the team we have ages from 18-45 with diverse backgrounds including teachers, scientists, nurses, a former Mayor, police, finance, students and Mums along with every body shape you can think of. Real proof that Rugby is a sport for anyone.
We are hosting a Pitch Up and Play for ladies and girls at the Heath this month to enthuse other ladies to take up the sport, local ladies to join the club and generally promote rugby and fitness. The Pitch up and Play is designed for every fitness level and is a great way to try rugby and see if it’s the sport for you or for returning players to get back into it.
Following on from the Pitch Up and Play session Royston Ladies will be playing a match and everyone is welcome to stay on and cheer for the team. Of course the social side of the ladies team is also not to be missed post match.
