Currently celebrating its 6th birthday, the Melbourn Hub announces the start of its new season’s community events.
The first of the new year’s art exhibitions welcomes Paul Human, who has been displaying his unusual work across the U.K. since 1980. Originally from Hemel Hempstead, Paul’s art genres range from abstract to fine art, and his current experimentation with oil on gesso panels, charcoal and pastel works, and original water colour miniatures. He has produced a series of ‘Time Out’ toddler chairs, and outdoor hand painted roof tiles, which he sells on his trade stall at local markets and fairs. Paul accepts commissions for certain work.
The Hub has become a popular venue for local artists to display their work in the Hub Atrium’s art gallery and many are successful in selling their art as a result. For more details of the booking arrangements for these please phone 01763 263303 and speak to one of the centre managers.
Building on the success of the Virtual Dementia Tour Bus experiences last year, the Hub is now hosting a monthly Memory Cafe for those living with dementia and their family carers. The memory cafes are organised by ‘Community Support for Dementia’ and those attending are treated to an enjoyable sociable afternoon over coffee and cake, with music and a variety of activities. Jeannie Seers, a director of the Hub states, “Just come along as there is no booking necessary and the event is totally free. The memory café gives families much needed support and those living with dementia an opportunity to enjoy time out in a friendly and welcoming environment.”
This month the Cafe is operating on Saturday 15th February between 2.30pm – 4.00pm. Car parking is available just opposite, and there are two disabled bays to the rear of the venue.
Award winning folk group, Megson, blend their infectious mix of heavenly vocals and lush harmonies into a gentle and entertaining concert , especially for the younger members of the family, which will be hosted by the Hub on Saturday 15th. March. The entertainment features children’s songs such as ‘I was a Lad’ and ‘Little Bird’ albums, suitable for six month to 7 year olds. The event takes place at 11.30 am, and tickets are £6 each or 4 for £20.
