Mindful Living: Breathe, Breathe in the Air

Mindful Living: Breathe, Breathe in the Air

As a 70’s child, I was surrounded by Pink Floyd’s words and rhythms from an early age, their lyrics so far have journeyed with me throughout my life, always there like an ever-present hum in the background.

They feel timeless, exciting, and philosophical.

“Breathe, breathe in the air
Don’t be afraid to care
Leave but don’t leave me
Look around, choose your own ground” Pink Floyd

Our planet breathes just like us, it has a rhythm and so do we. And it’s these rhythms; day and night; spring, summer; autumn, winter; light and dark that we can rely on to ground us and remind us to come back to our true selves.

To lift your spirits, spend time with nature. She will lend you her power until you become aware of your own. We breathe and nature breathes with us, we literally stay alive by breathing in what the trees breathe out and vice versa.

Taking in more air encourages us to slow down naturally. It activates the parasympathetic nervous system which encourages the body to relax, and it is in this relaxed state we let go of stress and anxiety.

Hearing the birds sing, feeling a breeze on your skin, a walk outside, these are all beautiful things that can remind us of a life-giving energy from the earth, the sun, the moon and the stars.

If you’d like to spend some more time in nature I might have just the treat. My North Norfolk summer solstice yoga retreat – an auspicious time to revere the sun and celebrate nature at its best! The retreat is 20th of June. 2 Nights and 3 days, there will be yoga twice a day, sound healing gong bath, meditation, massage, outdoor swimming in the lake and there’s also a swimming pool. The nature, landscape and trees are unreal… the food is all grown on the land, vegetarian, dairy and gluten free.
