By the time you read this, Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day will be but a few days away. At the time of writing this, much work has taken place to ensure that the services of Remembrance on these two important dates – Sunday 8th November and Wednesday 11th November 2020 – can take place.
This year’s services will be somewhat different to normal due to the impact of Covid-19. The services on both dates will be attended by official representatives of Organisations from within the Town, and we ask that members of the public “Remember from Home” and do not gather in crowds at the War Memorial.
We understand that this will be both disappointing and upsetting for many but in these extraordinary times, in order to comply with the guidance that we have received, and in order that these events can proceed safely and within the stated guidelines, we ask for your understanding and support.
The important thing is that we are able to mark these annual acts of remembrance and to do so in a safe manner for all concerned.
It is intended that the Remembrance Sunday Service on the 8th Nov will be live streamed, thus allowing you to join the service and “Remember from Home”.
This year marks a number of significant and important anniversaries; the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Britain, the 75th anniversary of VE (Victory in Europe) Day, and the 75th anniversary of VJ (Victory over Japan) Day. 2020 also marks the centenary of the Cenotaph in London.
Wherever you may be this Remembrance time, let us remember together the service and sacrifice made by so many; remembering those who left never to return, and those who returned but were never the same.
May you all stay safe and well, and let us hope that things will return to normal for next year.
LEST WE FORGET

The Annual Poppy Appeal in Royston will take place this year; again Covid-19 has impacted how this will be delivered. Poppies will be available in Tesco’s, Aldi and at a number of outlets within the town centre.
