Since the group was set up, it has answered over 450 calls from local residents and has logged 300 ‘actions’. The group receives between 10-40 calls a day. But the hard work couldn’t be achieved without the help of the fabulous group of 3,319 local volunteers.
Launch of Royston Talks:
Royston vs Coronavirus have also just launched a new neighbour-neighbour talk service. Recognising how challenging this period can be for us all and have such a huge impact on how we live our life – whether that be because you’re self-isolating, are working on the front line, have been furloughed, are home schooling children, are worried about loved ones or are just missing being in physical contact with your friends – talking about how you’re feeling may help. Royston is already a friendly community based place live. We are very fortunate to have some of our volunteers come forward to say they are more than happy to spend some of their day talking to others in Royston about how they’re feeling:
“I would like to lift people’s spirits in a positive way at this difficult time”, Heather O’Dell.
“I volunteered to give what I can to people in need. In my lifetime so many people, some of them strangers, have helped me when I’ve needed it. If I can help just one person get through this, I will be happy”, Liz Wells.
“I enjoy supporting and offering a friendly ear to anyone in any circumstances, to help ease any feelings of anxiety or isolation”, anonymous.
