We have a number of different walks every Wednesday all of which start at The Heath Café, Baldock Road, Royston, SG8 5BG. At 10am we have a leisurely walk over Therfield Heath covering about 1½ miles and a slow/flat walk. Both are opportunities to get a bit of exercise, have a chat and meet new people. The groups come together at the Café for a brew around 11am, please feel free to join us. Our Wednesday afternoon walk is a bit more challenging and a little longer (about 2 miles) and starts at 5pm. Gt Chishill Windmill Open Days We have organised a number of Open Days on Sundays through the Summer when you can come and be shown the inside of the windmill. It still has all the machinery that the miller used so you get a real feel for what it was like to work in a windmill. And if the wind varies whilst you are there you will feel (and hear!) to mill turning on its post. It is nearly the Summer and what better time for a picnic and tour of the Windmill? Royston Kite Festival This annual event is held on Therfield Heath at Royston and is the Clubs “Flagship” event of the year bringing in thousands of spectators from the area. It is always held on the first Sunday of August and this year it is being held on Sunday 7th August 2022 10.30am and 4.30pm . Litter Pick on the Heath Sunday 14 August Organised by The Friends of Therfield Heath Collect your litter pickers and rubbish bags between 9.30–10.30am. Find us between the café and tennis courts. Enjoy a walk across the Heath while you help to keep it clean. Take 30 minutes or up to 2 hours, it is your choice. We finish at 12noon. Please wear suitable clothing and footwear for the weather that day.

Royston Allotment and Garden Association: learn how to ‘grow your own’ The gates at Royston Allotments are swinging open on Sunday 14th August to welcome people who are keen to learn how to ‘grow your own’. Royston Allotment and Garden Association (RAGA) supports enthusiastic growers by running a shop on the allotment site, providing advice and help, and arranging events. Vicki Seddon, Co-Chair of RAGA said: “Nothing beats the taste and freshness of home-grown veggies, especially when you consider how far some food travels before it reaches our dinner plates. “We have over 100 plot holders who always proud to show the fruits of their labour, and share their growing hints and tips.” The gates at Coombes Hole (at the junction of Green Street and Melbourn Road) will open from 11am until 2pm on Sunday 14th August. Entry is free. Annual Cat Show Saturday 20th August, from midday Open to all domestic cats and kittens Cats need to be vaccinated and registered for the show before 5th August – https://www.lpscs.uk/show/ Cats cannot turn up on the day, but visitors welcome – stalls, refreshments and raffles on the day  

We fixed them! At the last Royston Repair Café we fixed… a desk lamp, an electric saw, two sewing machines, a bike, a leaf blower, a garden shredder, a clock, a vacuum cleaner, an oil radiator. We sharpened garden tools, shortened trousers and repaired clothing. We had a go at everything brought in and saved lots from landfill. What will you be bringing to the next Repair Café at Coombes Community Centre 2 – 5pm on Saturday 20th August?
