![]() We have an enthusiastic group of trained volunteers who lead our two, weekly Walking for Health walks at Wandlebury. The first is slightly faster while the second is more leisurely, accommodating people who are not so fit or are newcomers to the group. Each walk lasts around 30 minutes and covers about 1.5 miles. With the slower second walk, we offer a shortcut back to the base if needed. This social group meets all year round at 10am every Thursday morning, with the slower walk starting at 10.30am. You’ll start your trek with a short talk about alpacas and the Yew Tree herd. We then go to our fields where you’ll meet your alpaca and receive a short pre-trek training session before we set out. The trek itself is approx 1¾ hours, (which is a double length alpaca walk) with a break of around 15 minutes in a shady orchard for refreshments and biscuits at the half way stage.At the end of the trek you’ll have worked up an appetite so we’re sure you’ll enjoy our lunch of freshly made sandwiches, yogurts and cakes/bakes to restore your energy. ![]() History and decorating workshop.. You will learn all about the history of masks in Venice from 1162 till 1797 and those of the Commedia dell’arte. This will inspire you to then design and decorate your own full face papier mache mask. We will use acrylic paints as a base design and enhance the image with acrylic metallic colours such as gold, silver, copperand glitter paint if desired. Small inserts of sheet music or coloured paper maybe incorporated if required. There will be plenty of reference material to inspire you to create your own true design. You are welcome to bring some simple designs as reference and any special paper. This is an adult class for all levels for who wish to create and take home a unique mask. Three local Barley gardens, Dovehouse Shott, The Hoops and Smiths End Barn, will open their gates in Barley on June 16th from 12 noon-5pm participating in the National Garden Scheme. The three gardens share a variety of features, including lavender walks, luscious pink roses, deep herbaceous borders, small orchards, wildlife meadows, pond plantings and a courtyard garden. All three gardens are located on Smith’s End Lane and will be signposted closer to the date. There will be stalls on the day including a pop-up gin and tonic bar from Pinkster Gin, homemade tea and cakes as well as splendid plants for sale. Refreshments will be provided at Dovehouse Shott. ![]() We have an enthusiastic group of trained volunteers who lead our two, weekly Walking for Health walks at Wandlebury. The first is slightly faster while the second is more leisurely, accommodating people who are not so fit or are newcomers to the group. Each walk lasts around 30 minutes and covers about 1.5 miles. With the slower second walk, we offer a shortcut back to the base if needed. This social group meets all year round at 10am every Thursday morning, with the slower walk starting at 10.30am. ![]() Join the New Cambridge Singers for a concert of sumptuous and reflective music, featuring the last great pieces of two very different composers. The Spanish Renaissance composer Victoria’s Requiem Mass, written at the end of the Siglo de Oro (the Spanish Golden Age) is often regarded as a funeral for a departing era, and contrasts beautifully with the work of the English composer Hubert Parry. Written during the First World War, Parry’s six Songs of Farewell can be seen as the pinnacle of his choral compositions, completed in the last year of his life. The movements of the two works are interspersed to provide a unique listening experience. Tickets are £10, students £6, under 18’s are free.
