Out and About… Remembrance 2021

Out and About… Remembrance 2021

At the time of writing this article, much work is going on for the preparations for Armistice Day on the 11th November, and Remembrance Sunday on 14th November 2021.

The plan is to hold the services and parade as was normal pre-pandemic; this of course could be subject to change if any restrictions come into force. This year the Men Of Royston War Memorial display, will again be displayed on the War Memorial from Friday 5th until Friday 19th November. This project, since its creation, has been funded privately by a small number of individuals, and I am extremely grateful that Royston First are now sponsoring the display by way of insurance and equipment.

This year sees the 100th anniversary of the Royal British Legion; formed originally to help those from the First World War, it continues to provide help and support for all those serving and ex-serving personnel and their dependents, who may need it.
This year’s Poppy Appeal launches on Thursday 28th Oct and poppies will be available at many places throughout the town.

I hope that on Armistice Day, the 11th November, and on Remembrance  Sunday, the 14th November, we can gather as a community to remember the service and sacrifice of our Armed Forces, veterans and their families. Let us also remember the sacrifices of the men and women of the Commonwealth and our allies.
