Spotlight On: Tesco Community Spirit

Tesco Royston Extra community superstars

Tesco Royston asked our customers to nominate people in our local community that have gone over and above during lockdown.

We are pleased to announce the winners who all received a hamper of goodies and a little something to treat themselves.

1. Tom Linnane Head of Year 5 at KJAR He worked tirelessly for the year 5 children during lockdown. Mr Linnane ensured that the children had work emailed to them each day. Within a couple of weeks of lockdown he set up the Year 5 launch site with online lessons. He, and the other year 5 teachers, were available to help and guide the children. He set up a Year 5 to Year 6 transition site online with lots of information. He has put in a phenomenal amount of work over the past months and has done so much for the year 5 children.

2. Katie Moulton Katie set up and organised the Royston bear hunt for children to spot on their daily exercise. Katie brought smiles to a lot of children who couldn’t do their usual activities.

3. Sarah Kendall Sarah helps with baby and toddler group First Friends where she is a volunteer. Sarah arranged for activities to be delivered to families who were self- isolating to help keep the children entertained. Sarah also helped with shopping, picking up medication and supported lots of families. When restrictions started to ease she opened her garden up for families to safely play. Sarah is a superstar!

4. Jen Harper (Harpers Hair in Bassingbourn) During lockdown she stayed in touch with her client base who have tended to be elderly to help them with shopping, collecting medication and just calling people to say hello and check on them. This was a great joy for many clients who have little or no family close by.

5. Jacey Stewart During lockdown Jacey bought and delivered food and other essential shopping for many elderly and vulnerable Melbourn residents, which she has done many times. Jacey works as a teaching assistant to ensure vulnerable and children of key workers continued to be educated. Jacey checked up on lonely neighbours regularly and kept their spirits up. Jacey did all of the above with her usual cheerful persona, never asking or expecting anything in return.
