What’s On… in Royston and Beyond

What’s On… in Royston and Beyond  The Listing What’s On guide is the most comprehensive guide in the area, helping you to plan how to spend your free time. Our online diary and printed pages are reserved for one-off events, rather than reoccurring events, meetings and classes.  Click here to visit our online organisation directory for more information on our local clubs and societies.

Do you have an event you would like to promote? Simply email your events to hello@thelistingmagazine.co.uk and it will be included online and in our printed magazines in the month of the event (subject to space and other terms.)

If you wanted your event to really stand out, you might also like to consider running an advert in the magazine too, or possibly consider our door-to-door leaflet delivery service.  Discounted advertising rates are given for charity and not for profit organisations.

IMPORTANT: The risk of contracting COVID-19 means that any events may be subject to change or cancellation. Therefore, we urge that you double check with the event holder that it is still going ahead and to follow the latest guidance from Public Health England.

This summer term is looking very different for every child across the country, with many still being home-schooled. Every year Tannery Drift First School look forward to a summer of sporting events, particularly the much anticipated School Sports Day. One event the children look forward to each year at Tannery Drift First School is a sponsored sports event to raise much needed funds for the school.  This year they are excited to announce a virtual triathlon in its place, on the 7th July! Each participating child will have the choice of timed challenges that they can complete at home, either indoors or outdoors such as running, skipping, jumping jacks or getting out on their bike, all of which they can then be sponsored for. This fundraising is essential for the school as it enables them to purchase new resources and plan experiences to enhance the children’s learning. The school also[...]

WHEN? – the original COS weekends: July 4th/5th, 11th/12th, 18th/19th, 25th/26th inclusively. HOW?  A treasure trail map will be created with spots to indicate the location of participating artists.  The map will be available to download from the Cambridge Open Studios website at the beginning of June. Participating artists will decorate their houses with the Cambridge Open Studios yellow flag and it will become an art treasure hunt for the local neighbourhood. Each participating artist  will display their name and the Cambridge Open Studios website address alongside their art in their window. There are actually a handful of artist members who have already been doing this independently, to various degrees, since the lockdown began. We now have 100+ artists signed up to take part[...]

With Royston Library still closed, the Summer Reading Challenge is taking place online, with a digital challenge platform is now up and running and is FREE for children and their families to join and use, providing a safe and secure sign-up process. This is a great opportunity to develop skills and enjoy reading as a family. Children will be able to set up their own personal reading goals. We are encouraging them to read six books, although this year there is no minimum (or maximum!) number to be read. Instead of coming into the library to collect stickers, children will be able to record their progress through the Challenge online and unlock virtual rewards as they go. You can also print a certificate at the end. The Silly Squad website will include games, quizzes and downloadable activities to keep everyone entertained at home as well as a book sorter which[...]

Instagram post 17874005885123302 Update from @eachhospices... Please hold on to your donations, urges children's charity waiting to open shop in Royston...East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) is asking everyone with donations for its new Royston shop to hold on to them and says any left outside could result in the charity having to pay a disposal cost.EACH has acquired the High Street premises formerly occupied by Woolworths. The signs are up and the grand opening had been scheduled for Thursday, 21 January. Following the announcement of more government restrictions, the good cause says it now intends to open just as soon as possible.Sarah Throssell, EACH Acting Head of Retail, said: “We’re obviously very sad to have to postpone the opening, though realising it is for the right reasons. We’d had such a brilliant show of support from everyone in Royston who had heard about us coming to town, whether they were offering to come along and shop, volunteer or make donations.“We’d now like to ask people to hold on to their donations, if they possibly can, rather than leaving them outside the shop where they are likely to become damaged and result in a disposal cost. The team who will run the shop have been furloughed for the time being, along with all our staff who keep our network of 43 other shops across the region running and bringing in vital money. This means there will be no-one there to take in donations.“We will finally throw open the doors when it’s possible, but until then we thank everyone for their support so far and hope you all stay safe.”For more details about the charity and for anyone interested in more information on volunteering at the new shop, once it is open, can call Sarah on 07540 335680. For the latest information check EACH’s website at www.each.org.uk or its social media accounts.
