Well what a summer… When I wrote the last article about Royston Town Band’s lockdown journey we had settled into zoom playalongs and had recently come 2nd in our section in our first ever virtual contest. We were ready for our next challenge, and along it came in the form of Cory’s Online Championships. The brief was to put together a 10 minute programme of music using as much imagination as possible! Boy did everyone step up to the challenge – we had a hurdling dog, a unicycling horn player, a knife throwing circus act, a beautiful cornet solo from Andy Snowball and a brilliant arrangement of ‘A design for life’ by 16 year old Rosemary Ball, all expertly planned and put together by our MD Steve. The evening of watching entries and waiting for results while chatting on WhatsApp was almost like being back together, and we were rewarded[...]
